My Path To Yoga

Anita_020I am a Yoga Instructor and Reiki Practitioner.

I have been practicing yoga since 2002 and teaching for 10 of these years as of 2015. I love yoga: I eat, drink and sleep yoga! I feel so blessed to have found this amazing practice in my life. Whether teaching, practicing or watching yoga, I end up in a uniquely calm and serene place. Because of its strong effect in my life, feeding me on multiple levels, I am called to teach yoga.

I did not stumble upon yoga by accident: I spent more than 5 years trying unsuccessfully to return to my usual workout routines after surviving cancer. Years of continually attempting to exercise at the same level as before cancer- running, walking, biking, aerobics- resulted in continual illnesses and injuries. This was a call to pay attention to my body and meet my need for exercise differently. It was not until after contracting MERSA, a life threatening infection, that I finally listened to my body and tried yoga.

After acquiring a solid foundation of yoga through classes at a Gold’s Gym, I tried Baptiste Power Vinyasa Yoga. IMG_0567Baptiste yoga changed my life. This particular style of yoga further enhanced my beginning return of health. I attended classes at the Baptiste studios in Boston and Cambridge almost daily. This was an exercise I could do every day and twice a day if I wanted to!!! This practice also boosted my metabolism which seemed to shut down by 9 months of chemotherapy. This was an added bonus!!

Yoga has also brought me more into an understanding of what is important to me in my life and has awakened my own personal spiritual beliefs. No, yoga is not a religion. The more you study it and feel it the more you may want to explore your own faith and come into a greater understanding of what you truly do believe.
